Massive Assault: Death strike

04/04/12  ||  Curt

When opening track “Driven Towards Death” came on, I thought I was going to hate “Death Strike”. The production sounded muddy and the vocals were like a cross between a shout and a death growl and the song, in my opinion was not very good. Thankfully the rest of “Death Strike” is not like as “Driven Towards Death”. The muddy production actually suits the rest of the album, making it seem like it’s 1993 and you’re listening to this on your (cassette) Walkman. The vocals also get a bit more growl like as the album progresses and the songs start to get more interesting as well. However, don’t go into this album expecting a brootal Death Metal album, a lot of these songs are more thrashy than death and could appeal just as much to a fan of Destruction as to a fan of Deicide. At times, some of the songs such as “Turning Tides” even show hints of the greatness that could come with a bit more polish and practice. Overall this is a decent effort and recommended.

7/10. Decent, but not legendary.
